Paradise Bay is a small boutique hotel on Playa Herradura, 50 metres from the Los Sueños entrance and about 4.8 km from the centre of Jacó. Guests score it 9.1 out of 10, the best score of any Jacó-area hotel you can book through us. Rooms are big and breakfast is included, but it is not on the sand and several rooms have no outside window. Check live room prices for your dates below.
Why Guests Choose It
- Service is the standout: guests rate it 9.78 out of 10, the highest of the eight categories in its review analysis, and staff are praised in review after review.
- Big rooms. Every room type is 43 to 65 m², with a fridge, microwave and coffee machine, and the two largest sleep up to six.
- Breakfast is included in every rate we priced, ordered from a menu at the on-site restaurant rather than a buffet.
- 50 metres from the Los Sueños entrance on Playa Herradura, a 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach by guests' accounts and close to the marina where the Tortuga Island catamaran checks in at 07:15.
- Free parking on site, plus a pool, a hot tub and a pool bar a few steps from many of the rooms.
Best for
- Couples and groups who want a large, modern room with breakfast included
- Early boat days from the Los Sueños marina, such as the Tortuga Island catamaran
- Travellers with a car who want a quiet base outside busy central Jacó
Think twice if
- You want natural light: several guests had a room with no outside window, or one facing the corridor
- You want to walk out onto the sand: the beach is a short walk away, and there is little else nearby without a car
- You sleep badly on firm beds: a few guests found the mattresses very hard

“Relaxing , comfortable, modern and candid. .”
Clean, food is excellent, staff is very nice and helpful . Rooms are large and comfy . Very quiet zone . It’s a hidden jewel .
Only Area of opportunity is the bar pool . Never saw anyone attending and was dusty . Missing TV . You can realize value by polishing that area . Can be cool to get a bar sitting in the pool . However you can ask beverages from the restaurant and ship to your pool chair by someone .

“Stay away from Herradura if you want to really enjoy Costa Rica.”
Ww liked the cleanliness and the room's decor.
The location is not good at all next to a busy road, and the town of Herradura is actually a tourist's trap. There's nothing to really do except for man made activities in an awful place that doesn't represent the real beauty of Costa Rica. A tourist's trap indeed.

Which Room to Book at Paradise Bay
Paradise Bay sells four room types, all studios with a private entrance, a sofa, a dining table, a fridge, a microwave and a coffee machine. They are large for the area: the smallest is 43 m². The choice mostly comes down to how many people you are and the bed setup.
| Room | Size | Sleeps | Beds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deluxe Double Studio | 43 m² | 4 | 2 queen beds |
| King Studio | 50 m² | 2 | 1 super-king bed |
| Studio, Split Level | 65 m² | 6 | 2 queen beds and a sofa bed |
| Family Studio | 65 m² | 6 | 3 queen beds and a sofa bed |
For couples, the King Studio is the pick: one big bed, more floor space than the Deluxe, and the room description mentions pool views. When we priced a three-night stay in mid-January 2027, it cost only about $13 more for the whole stay than the Deluxe Double Studio ($594 against $581, breakfast and VAT included).
For groups of five or six, the two 65 m² studios are the only rooms that fit. In the January pull the Split Level started at $724 and the Family Studio at $766 for three nights. In mid-November 2026 the Family Studio was actually the cheapest room in the hotel at $637, so check it even if you are only two.
The rate matters less than usual. Every rate in both pulls included breakfast and VAT, with no extra taxes listed. A refundable rate cost about 11% more than the non-refundable rate on the same room. Our Jacó hotel guide found it from $153 a night with breakfast in its October 2026 sample and ranks it third of 12, the best score of any hotel you can book there.
Ask for a room with an outside window. This is the most common complaint in the reviews. Some rooms have only a glass panel onto the corridor, so guests kept the blinds shut for privacy and found the room dark.
What Guests Say About Paradise Bay
Across all 928 reviews, Paradise Bay scores 9.1 out of 10. Its review analysis rates service highest (9.78), followed by location (9.32), cleanliness and food (both 9.31). Value for money is its lowest category at 8.26. We read the 70 most recent English-language reviews, from May 2024 to September 2026.
The rooms and the staff come first. Most reviews call the rooms spacious, and many guests were surprised by how large and modern they are. Staff are described as warm and helpful in review after review, with examples such as helping a guest with a disability and driving guests and their luggage to the beach for a morning boat.
The food is the other big draw. Breakfast is cooked to order from a menu with Costa Rican and American options, and several guests called it the best breakfast of their trip. The on-site restaurant gets similar praise for dinner and happy hour. One guest found breakfast on the small side.
The complaints are about the building, not the people. Several guests had a room with no outside window. A few found the mattresses very firm, a few had little or no hot water at times, and a few reported maintenance problems such as a broken safe, a toilet that kept failing or a musty bathroom. Two guests found the pool bar unstaffed. Some found the location dull: it is next to a road, and beyond Playa Herradura there is not much to do without a car.
What You Should Know
- It is not on the beach. Guests describe a 5 to 10 minute walk down the road to Playa Herradura; some earlier guests were offered a ride in the hotel's cart, but a January 2026 family found no beach transport or bikes, so ask at check-in.
- If natural light matters to you, ask for a room with an outside or pool-facing window when you book. Rooms without one are the most common complaint.
- Arriving late? One family got in after the front desk had closed, and guests found the hotel quick to answer messages. Let it know your arrival time.
- Parking is free but uncovered, and one guest found the entrance road rough for a sedan.
Getting to Paradise Bay
Paradise Bay is on Playa Herradura, about 50 metres west of the entrance to Los Sueños and about 4.8 km in a straight line from the centre of Jacó. One guest put the drive to Jacó at about ten minutes, and the drive to Playa Blanca or Tárcoles at about 30. Most international visitors fly into San José (SJO) and continue by road; the hotel lists an airport shuttle at an extra charge.
Its location makes it one of the easiest bases for boat days. The Tortuga Island catamaran checks in at the Los Sueños marina at 07:15, and one guest notes you can walk to the marina through Los Sueños. Other boat tours from Jacó leave from the same area.
A car helps for everything else. The Tárcoles River crocodile tours and Carara National Park are north along the coast, and Jacó's surf beach and restaurants are to the south. For more ideas, see our best things to do in Jacó, or compare other areas in our Jacó hotel guide.
