Fuego del Sol is a small 3-star hotel directly on Playa Hermosa, a black-sand surf beach about 4.6 km south of Jacó centre. Guests score it 8.8 out of 10 and praise the location, the staff and the beachside restaurant. The sea out front is rough, so the pool is where most guests swim, and the cheaper rooms are basic. Check live room prices for your dates below.

Why Guests Choose It

  • Directly on the black sand of Playa Hermosa, about 4.6 km straight-line south of Jacó centre. Location is its top-rated category in the review analysis, at 9.45 out of 10.
  • Breakfast came with every rate we priced. In mid-November 2026 a three-night stay started at $352.85 for two, about $118 a night, with VAT included and free cancellation.
  • Two-bedroom units for families and groups: the Superior Two Bedroom is listed at 87 m², sleeps five and has a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave.
  • Staff are the most praised thing after the beach, and several recent guests were upgraded to an ocean-view room without asking.
  • Free parking, free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool and a restaurant and bar looking over the beach.

Best for

  • Surfers and beach walkers who want to step straight onto Playa Hermosa
  • Travellers wanting a quiet night outside Jacó, or a stopover on the drive to Manuel Antonio
  • Families and groups who need a two-bedroom unit with a kitchenette

Think twice if

  • You want to swim in the sea: guests repeatedly describe the waves and currents out front as too strong for casual swimming
  • You want polished rooms: room quality is the lowest-scoring category, and a few guests got a dark back room facing the road
  • You need a fridge or hair dryer in a standard room: several guests found neither

  • Free WiFi
  • Free Parking

  • Bar

“Ok experience:(”

We liked the bed, it was very confortable and the pool and room was very clean.

Food was average, no fridge at room, near the freeway, but ocean frontview, old building, the photos and rate did not make justice for us, we booked for 3 nights and stayed only 1 night. We explained to staff why, the ocean is too dangerous in front, but we were still charged for all nights. I suggest to drive another extra hr and stay at Manuel Antonio for better options.

“Low key spot”

Quiet spot, beautiful views, nice helpful staff and nice pool Jonathan was awesome, helped us book the tour we were on the fence taking. They also apparently gave us an upgraded room which was lovely. We could see the ocean pool. The restaurant at the resort was delicious but one night we walked up the street. Literally a 5-minute walk and got Argentinian empanadas which were delicious and then came back to the resort and had dessert. Highly recommend.

Nothing it was great

Which Room to Book at Fuego del Sol

Fuego del Sol lists 11 room types, but they fall into four groups. Most are standard rooms of about 26 m² in different bed setups; the larger options are the oceanfront Deluxe rooms and two Superior units with kitchenettes.

RoomSize (as listed)SleepsWorth knowing
Standard Room (several bed setups)26 m²2 to 4The cheapest rooms; no fridge listed
Standard Room Plus (several bed setups)26 m²2 or 3Same size, with a terrace listed
Deluxe Ocean Front38 m²2 or 3Terrace, seating area and coffee machine
Superior One Bedroom57 m²3Kitchenette, fridge, microwave and a sofa bed
Superior Two Bedroom87 m²5Two bedrooms, kitchenette and a terrace

For couples, the view matters more than the bed. Guests who had an upstairs or front room facing the beach rave about falling asleep to the waves, while a few who got a ground-floor room at the back describe a dark room with one small window facing the road. If the view matters to you, book an oceanfront or Plus room rather than the cheapest standard, and check which room you have been given at check-in. The Deluxe Ocean Front rooms did not show up in any of our rate pulls, so they may sell out early.

For families and groups, the Superior units are the ones to look at. They are the only room types with a fridge and kitchenette in the listing, and the Two Bedroom sleeps five.

Book early for high season. When we priced a three-night stay in mid-November 2026, a standard room started at $352.85 for two (about $118 a night) and the Superior One Bedroom at $479.53. For 12 January 2027 there was no availability at all, and for 20 January only the Superior Two Bedroom was left, at $873.99 for three nights (about $291 a night). Every rate in those pulls included breakfast and VAT and could be cancelled free of charge until 15 to 31 days before arrival. Our Jacó hotel guide compares it with 11 other top-rated hotels.

What Guests Say About Fuego del Sol

Across all 1,253 reviews, Fuego del Sol scores 8.8 out of 10. The review analysis rates location (9.45) and service (9.41) highest, and room quality (7.9) lowest. We read the 74 most recent English-language reviews, from June 2025 to October 2026, and they follow the same split.

The beach and the sunsets come first. Most guests mention being right on the black sand, hearing the waves at night and watching the sunset from the restaurant or the bar. Macaws, toucans and parrots around the grounds come up in several reviews, and one guest noticed turtle nests marked out on the beach in front.

Staff and food come next. Reviews describe a small, friendly team, from the front desk to the manager, and several guests were upgraded, or looked after when they arrived before their room was ready. Most guests liked breakfast and dinner, though a few found the menu repetitive or pricier than expected.

The sea is not for swimming. This is the most common surprise. Six of the reviews we read say the waves and currents are too strong to swim in, and two couples left early because of it. Playa Hermosa is a surf beach: surfers are happy, and families tend to use the pool instead. For lessons, see our Jacó surf lessons guide.

The rooms are where it loses points. A few guests found their room basic, dark or in need of updating, especially the bathrooms. Several missed a fridge or hair dryer, a few had no hot water at first (one problem was a tripped breaker, fixed quickly), and a handful mention thin pillows, worn towels or slow restaurant service when the hotel was full.

What You Should Know

  • Do not plan on swimming in the sea here. Guests consistently describe the waves and currents as strong enough that only surfers and confident swimmers go in; the pool is where families swim.
  • If you booked a room with a view, check which room you have been given at check-in. A few guests who arrived late or when the hotel was full were put in a back room facing the road.
  • Bring your own hair dryer, and book a Superior unit if you need a fridge. Several guests in standard rooms found neither.
  • Breakfast is ordered from a menu, not a buffet, and a couple of guests waited a long time when the hotel was sold out. Allow extra time on mornings with an early tour.

Getting to Fuego del Sol

Fuego del Sol is on the beach at Playa Hermosa, about 4.6 km in a straight line south of Jacó centre. Guests describe it as quiet and away from the bustle of town but close enough for a short drive into Jacó, and a couple walked about five minutes to small restaurants nearby. It sits close to the coastal highway, which one guest noticed. Parking is free on site.

The nearest international airport is San José (SJO), about 64 km away in a straight line. Several guests used the hotel as a first or last night in Costa Rica, or as a stopover on the drive between San José and Manuel Antonio.

From here it is easy to reach the area's main day trips: the Tárcoles River crocodile tours and Carara National Park to the north, ATV tours in the hills above Jacó, and the Tortuga Island catamaran, which checks in at the Los Sueños marina, about 10 km straight-line north of the hotel, at 07:15. For more ideas, see our guide to the best things to do in Jacó, and our Jacó hotel guide if you would rather stay in town.
