Best Hotels in Jacó, Costa Rica (2026): 12 Ranked by Guest Score, With Prices

We rank the 12 best hotels in Jacó, Costa Rica by a weighted guest score built from verified stays, covering Jacó town, Playa Hermosa to the south and Playa Herradura and Los Sueños to the north. The weighting pulls a high score with few reviews toward the average, so a 9.6 from 159 stays and a 9.1 from 939 stays can be compared fairly. Every hotel had at least 100 verified reviews; condos, private apartments and hostels were left out.

The result is not what most lists show. The top of the ranking is small, mid-priced hotels in the centre of town, led by Villa Creole at 9.6 from 159 reviews, while the big names score lower: the five-star Los Sueños Marriott scores 8.8 and ranks 12th, Crocs Resort & Casino scores 8.5 and the Best Western Jaco Beach All Inclusive, the most-reviewed hotel in the area with 4,515 stays, scores 8.2. We cover all three below.

If you only read one thing: for the best score you can book here, take Paradise Bay Hotel Boutique by the Los Sueños gate (9.1 from 928 reviews, from $153 with breakfast). For the lowest price, Hotel Mar de Luz in the centre (8.8 from 1,030, from $66 with breakfast). For a full resort with a kids club, the Los Sueños Marriott (from $266, room only).

The three areas are about 10 km apart end to end, and the choice shapes your trip more than any single hotel does.

Jacó town

Seven of our top 12 are in town, most within a kilometre of the centre: Villa Creole, Apartotel Flamboyant, Apartotel Girasol, Hotel Los Ranchos, Tropical Garden Hotel and Hotel Mar de Luz, with Club del Mar at the quieter south end. Staying here means walking to restaurants, surf schools and the bars on Avenida Pastor Díaz, and to the start of the food walk. The tradeoff is noise: in our supplier's summaries of guest reviews, noise is the most common complaint at several central hotels, from music, other guests or the street. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the street, or stay at the south end.

Playa Hermosa

About 5 km south, Playa Hermosa is a long, quieter surf beach with a handful of small hotels along it: Fuego del Sol, Hermosa Beach House and The Backyard Beachfront Hotel sit on the sand, while Las Brisas is on the inland side of the road. You will drive or take a taxi into Jacó for most meals and tours. It suits surfers and anyone who wants a beach without the town; our Jacó surf lessons guide covers lessons on both beaches.

Playa Herradura and Los Sueños

About 5 km north in a straight line, Playa Herradura wraps around a bay with the Los Sueños marina and golf course. The Marriott sits on the beach here and Paradise Bay is 50 metres from the Los Sueños entrance. It is the most polished of the three areas and the most expensive, and it is the easy base for boat days: the Tortuga Island catamaran checks in at the Los Sueños marina at 07:15, so you skip the 20-minute drive from town that our Tortuga Island tour guide describes.

Further out

Hotel Villa Caletas, a five-star oceanfront hotel at Playa Caletas with an infinity pool, is about 7 km north of Jacó and ties at 8.8. It is a destination in itself rather than a base for Jacó, and it takes bookings directly.

Each write-up uses the hotel's own listing and our supplier's summary of its guest reviews. Prices are the lowest we sampled for two adults, before taxes and fees.

1. Villa Creole (9.08, book direct)

The highest weighted score in Jacó: 9.6 from 159 reviews. A small three-star hotel on Calle Europa, about 600 metres from the centre and 800 metres from the beach, with a pool and terraces, and kitchenettes in some rooms. Guests in the review summary single out how quiet and well kept it is; the only recurring complaint is the television signal. It returned no rates through us, so book directly.

2. Apartotel Flamboyant (9.03, book direct)

Self-catering apartments right in the centre on Avenida Pastor Díaz, listed as beachfront, with a pool, gardens and barbecue area. With 939 reviews at 9.1, it has the most evidence of any hotel in our top three. Guests praise the location and staff; the complaints are noise from other guests and limited food options. Book directly.

3. Paradise Bay Hotel Boutique (9.03, from $153 with breakfast)

The best score you can book here, effectively tied with Flamboyant. It sits 50 metres from the Los Sueños entrance on Playa Herradura, with a pool, hot tub, restaurant and à la carte breakfast included. It is not on the sand: guests describe a 5 to 10 minute walk to Playa Herradura. Guests praise the service and the space; the most common complaint is rooms with no outside window, and a few found the beds very firm. It has two listings in our data, and their child policies disagree, so families should confirm before booking.

4. Apartotel Girasol (8.90, from $127 room only)

Apartment-style rooms around a pool on Calle Sol D'Oro, 700 metres from the centre, 9.1 from 161 reviews. Its price barely moved in our sample: $127 in November and $159 on the other four dates. Guests rate the location and value; some find the check-in time inconvenient.

5. Hermosa Beach House (8.89, book direct)

A small beachfront hotel on Playa Hermosa in front of the soccer field, with a pool, 9.1 from 138 reviews. Guests praise the staff and the beach; complaints mention small rooms and pool cleanliness. Book directly.

6. Las Brisas Resort and Villas (8.89, book direct)

Rooms, suites and villas with kitchens on the inland side of Playa Hermosa, with two pools, a spa, a restaurant and a free beach shuttle, 9.1 from 119 reviews. It is not on the sand. Its two listings disagree on whether children are accepted, so confirm before booking a family trip. Book directly.

7. Hotel Los Ranchos (8.88, limited rates)

Rooms, apartments and bungalows about 40 metres from Jacó Beach in the centre, 8.9 from 1,382 reviews. It priced on only one of our five dates ($116 with breakfast in November). Guests praise the location and space; complaints mention cleanliness and a basic breakfast.

8. Tropical Garden Hotel (8.86, limited rates)

A garden hotel with a pool in the centre on Calle Dankers, 8.9 from 404 reviews, priced only once in our sample ($161 room only). Guests rate the cleanliness and location.

9. Club del Mar Oceanfront (8.84, from $211 room only)

Oceanfront rooms and apartments with balconies at the south end of Jacó Beach, 2.2 km from the centre, with a restaurant, pool bar, kids pool and spa. It is the quieter end of the beach, about 2 km from the centre. Guests praise the staff; complaints mention room noise and food. It returned no rate on our January date.

10. Fuego del Sol Beachfront Hotel (8.80, from $128 with breakfast)

On the sand at Playa Hermosa, 8.8 from 1,253 reviews, with a pool, restaurant and bar. Guests rate the beach and the food; the complaints are room quality and maintenance. The price swings more than most: $128 in November, $291 on our January date.

11. Hotel Mar de Luz (8.80, from $66 with breakfast)

The cheapest room here: $66 a night for two with breakfast on our May and July dates and $94 to $100 from November to March. It is central, with pools, a hot tub, a playground, a games room and kitchenettes, and some rooms have bunk beds, which suits families. There is no restaurant or bar, and guests mention an aging building and noise.

12. Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort (8.80, from $266 room only)

The only five-star resort in our top 12, on Playa Herradura beside the marina, with several pools, a kids club, kids pool, spa and golf course. It suits families who want everything on site. Guests praise the setting and facilities; complaints are the prices and extra charges. It is also the clearest example of Jacó's January premium: $266 to $362 on four of our dates, $1,023 on 20 January.

Just outside the top 12

Four more hotels score exactly 8.80 and miss the cut only on review count: Club Ibiza Party Hotel & Beach Club in the centre (493 reviews; the name is accurate, and noise is its top complaint), Hotel & Villas Tangerí on Pastor Díaz (451), The Backyard Beachfront Hotel on Playa Hermosa (176) and Hotel Villa Caletas at Playa Caletas (158). None returned rates through us.

Crocs Resort & Casino (8.5 from 520 reviews, weighted 8.61, from $212 room only) is the five-star tower at the north end of Jacó Beach, with four restaurants, two bars and a casino. Guests rate the rooms and staff; the complaints are food prices and service during busy events.

Best Western Jaco Beach All Inclusive Resort (8.2 from 4,515 reviews, weighted 8.24, all-inclusive from $268) is the most-reviewed hotel in the area and the only all-inclusive here, on the beach near the centre, with kids activities and a buffet. Guests praise the staff and children's entertainment; the complaints are dated rooms and a rocky beach with strong waves in front. Its room-only rates came within $2 of all-inclusive on three of our four priced dates, so check which meal plan you are booking.

Jaco Laguna Resort & Beach Club (8.1 from 1,521 reviews, weighted 8.22, from $104 with breakfast) is a beachfront resort at the south end of town with a spa and kids pool. Guests rate the location; the complaints are cleanliness and room quality.

• Price January last. Our January sample date cost far more at several hotels: $1,023 at the Marriott and $291 at Fuego del Sol, against $266 and $128 at their cheapest. In our Jacó in December and Jacó in January guides, the median rate in our hotel sample peaked at $258 on Christmas Day and $324 on New Year's Day.
• Add taxes to every price. The rates on this page are before the local taxes and fees added at checkout, so budget above the headline figure.
• Check the meal plan. Several hotels here include breakfast and the cheapest rate is sometimes the breakfast one, as at Hotel Mar de Luz. At the Best Western, make sure you are booking the all-inclusive rate if that is what you want.
• Light sleepers: avoid the busiest blocks. Noise is the most common complaint at central hotels, and Club Ibiza calls itself a party hotel. The south end of Jacó Beach, Playa Hermosa and Los Sueños are all quieter.
• Families: confirm the child policy. Paradise Bay and Las Brisas each have two listings that disagree on whether children are accepted, so ask before you book.
• Book direct where we cannot. Six of our top 12 returned no regular rates through us. That is not a judgment on them; contact them directly.
