The Los Sueños Marriott is the big resort of the Jacó area, on Playa Herradura about 5.5 km north of town. Guests score it 8.8 out of 10 and praise the pools, the grounds and the staff. The beach is not one most guests swim at, a daily resort fee is added on top of the room rate, and food on site is expensive. Check live room prices for your dates below.
Why Guests Choose It
- The pools are the star. They are the feature guests praise most often, with a swim-up bar and adults-only swim-up rooms that open straight onto the water.
- Location (9.45) and service (9.41) are its best-scored categories; value for money (7.89) is its weakest.
- Wildlife on the grounds: scarlet macaws, sloths and iguanas come up often, and several guests rate the resort's Iguana eco tour of the golf course a highlight.
- Built for families: a kids club, a kids' pool and a playground, and families were the largest group among the recent reviews we read.
- A resort fee of USD 30 a night plus tax is charged on top of the room rate. It covers the eco tour, kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, the tennis court and the driving range.
Best for
- Families who want a kids club and big pools to fill whole days on site
- Golfers and travellers who want a spa, several restaurants and activities without leaving the resort
- Anyone sailing from the Los Sueños marina, including the Tortuga Island catamaran
Think twice if
- You want a swimming beach: several guests found Playa Herradura dark, rocky and not one they would swim at
- You are watching costs: on top of the resort fee, guests report breakfast at about $40 a person, paid pool cabanas and expensive food and drink
- You want to walk to restaurants and nightlife: apart from the marina next door, guests say there is little within walking distance

“One of the best best places to stay in Costa Rica”
I found a beautiful spot here that was honestly I'm so gorgeous. My husband had so much fun playing golf and we enjoyed the whole trip. The rooms were really nice too!

“Big hotel, no empathy from the personnel”
The place is very nice. Food is pretty good, but for such a big resort some things are missing. There is no place to charge electric cars and it is even worst ti say that’s there is no wiliness or empathy to help. The day was rainy and in such a big hotel no umbrellas for the guests to go to the cars. The place is nice but personnel is not capable to adapt and help the guest.

Beautiful hotel, friendly people.

“Disappointed”
Some of the staff were really kind, pool was okay. Gym was good
Activities were limited to 30mins per day, so the advertisement was very misleading. Some staff were really unwilling to support on even a basic level. Hotel was just weird and unfriendly. Unlike the other 7 hotels we have stayed at in Costa Rica.

Which Room to Book at the Los Sueños Marriott
Most rooms at the Marriott are standard guest rooms with one king or two double beds, sold in several views. The view and the balcony drive the price more than the size does. Families have bunk-bed family rooms, couples have adults-only swim-up rooms, and there are larger suites.
| Room | Size | Sleeps | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guest room, 1 King (garden or ocean view) | 36 m² | 3 | Listed with a sofa bed |
| Guest room, 1 King, Balcony | 43 m² | 3 | Also sold with an ocean view |
| Guest room, 2 Double | 36 to 43 m² | 4 | Garden, balcony or ocean view |
| Swim-up room (King or 2 Double) | 36 m² | 3 to 4 | Adults only |
| Family room, 1 King with bunk beds | 48 to 56 m² | Up to 5 | Largest version sleeps five |
| Ocean View Master Suite | 73 m² | 4 | One bedroom |
| Presidential Suite | 165 m² | 5 | One bedroom, ocean view |
For couples, the cheapest king room is the value pick. When we priced a three-night stay for two in mid-November 2026, it started at $1,391, with an ocean-view king from $1,646. In mid-January 2027 the cheapest king (garden view with a terrace) was $1,740 and an adults-only swim-up king was $2,611. Guests who stayed in the swim-up rooms liked them, though one couple found theirs looked over the children's playground and got no drink service at the swim-up pool.
For families, the two-double rooms sleep four and were $1,467 in the same November pull; a family room with bunk beds was $2,039. Do not book a swim-up room with children: they are adults only, and one family had a room cancelled at check-in for that reason. Another found the sofa bed in a king room was a small couch rather than a pull-out.
Pick the rate as carefully as the room. In both pulls, the breakfast rate cost $151 more than the same room only for three nights, about $25 a person a day, while guests who bought the buffet on site paid about $38 to $40 a person. Refundable rates were often cheaper than non-refundable ones, so compare both. All prices above include VAT but not the resort fee, which is paid on top. Our Jacó hotels guide compares the Marriott with smaller, cheaper hotels in town.
What Guests Say About the Los Sueños Marriott
Across all 685 reviews, the Marriott scores 8.8 out of 10. The review analysis rates location (9.45) and service (9.41) highest and value for money (7.89) lowest. We read the 72 most recent English reviews, from August 2025 to September 2026, and they split more than at most top-rated Jacó hotels.
Most guests love the pools and the grounds. The pool area is the most praised feature, and many mention the manicured gardens, the macaws that gather in the mornings and the eco tour around the golf course, which the resort fee covers. The breakfast buffet gets mostly good reviews, though one guest called it the worst they had had at a Marriott.
Service is the most divided topic. Many guests single out friendly, attentive staff by the pool, at breakfast and in the restaurants. A smaller but steady group describes slow restaurant service, hard-to-reach managers, being pointed to an app or QR code instead of being shown around, and billing problems.
The complaints repeat. Several guests say the beach is dark sand and rocks that almost nobody swims at. Many find food and extras expensive, and a few say the included activities were limited to about 30 minutes a day. A few rooms were described as dated or musty, with air conditioning failures, and some guests heard pool noise from their room. Mosquitoes after dark also come up.
What You Should Know
- Treat it as a pool resort, not a beach resort. Several guests found Playa Herradura too rocky and dark to enjoy, and a few say loungers by the pool go early in the day.
- The resort fee covers kayaks, paddleboards, bikes and the eco tour. Book activities in advance; a few guests say each one is limited to about 30 minutes a day.
- Food on site is expensive, so a breakfast rate usually costs less than buying the buffet each morning. For dinner, guests mention the marina restaurants next door, and one says ride-hailing is cheaper than the resort's transport.
- If your room's air conditioning struggles or it smells musty, report it straight away. Both come up in recent reviews, and some guests were moved to another room.
Getting to the Los Sueños Marriott
The Marriott is on Playa Herradura, about 800 m west of the Herradura entrance and beside the Los Sueños marina, about 5.5 km in a straight line north of Jacó centre. Most international visitors fly into San José (SJO); one recent guest put the drive at about an hour and 45 minutes. Parking is free for guests.
The marina is within walking distance and has restaurants, and a few guests rented a golf cart there to get around Los Sueños. For Jacó town you will need a car, taxi or ride-hailing app; several guests say there is not much else within walking distance.
The location suits boat days. The Tortuga Island catamaran checks in at the Los Sueños marina at 07:15, and fishing and other boat tours leave from the same area. Heading north, Carara National Park and the Tárcoles River crocodile tours are popular half days. For more ideas with children, see our things to do in Jacó for families, or compare other places to stay in our Jacó hotels guide.
