Hotel Costa Verde spreads across a jungle hillside above Playa Espadilla, with an adults-only section, several pools and hotel-owned restaurants, one of them in an old airplane. Guests score it 8.9 out of 10 and rave about the wildlife and views. Rooms are spacious with kitchens but often dated, breakfast is not included, and the hills are steep. Check live room prices for your dates below.
Why Guests Choose It
- Wildlife from your balcony. Capuchin, howler and squirrel monkeys, sloths, macaws, iguanas and agoutis cross the grounds, and two recent guests saw more animals at the hotel than in the national park.
- A kitchen in every room. Every room type has a kitchen or kitchenette, which helps since breakfast is not included.
- Two sides to choose from: an adults-only section with its own pool and bar, and family rooms for up to four across the rest of the property.
- Views over the jungle to the ocean from the rooms, pools and restaurants, which come up in almost every review.
- Hotel-owned restaurants, including El Avión in an old airplane, and a free shuttle you call on WhatsApp to get around the hillside.
Best for
- Families who want space, a kitchen and wildlife on site
- Couples who book the adults-only section
- Travellers who want to walk to the beach and to dinner
Think twice if
- Stairs and steep hills are hard for you: the grounds and the walk back from the beach are steep
- You are a light sleeper: rooms near the road get traffic and restaurant noise
- You want modern rooms: guests often describe them as dated
Amenities
- Swimming pool
- Free WiFi
- Free Parking
- Restaurant

Friendly staff, beautiful views, good food in all the area restaurants, prices were reasonable. Tons of wildlife hanging out by the pool, we saw monkeys, mccaws and iguanas every day.
A lot of hills and stairs could make it hard for less mobile guests, but that was the only negative

“The hotel grounds are beautiful but the rooms are lacking.”
The hotel area is very large with 2 really nice pools, the water was a perfect temperature, there was always available seating. You see monkeys and hummingbirds around the grounds which is lovely. They were generous with replacing towels for fresh dry ones as much as you want. The gardens are well kept.
There is an on site coffee shop where you get breakfast but it closes at 11am, after that you can´t get a tea or coffee at the hotel. The coffee provided in the room is awful. there is nowhere to hang clothes in the room, between swimming in the pools and the activities in the rain and the humidity, always having wet clothing and nowhere to dry them is a real hassle. The decor of the rooms is dated, and the room was not very large for 4 people. The hotel is on a hill with a main road so if you don´t have a car it´s not comfortable to walk from the hotel to other areas.

“Best of the jungle and the ocean”
We lived our experience at Hotel Costa Verde! The staff was friendly and super helpful. They booked our tours for us, and did the best job. We had a blast on every tour we did. Our suite was huge, and had the best view from our patio. Honestly, since the room had 2 walls of windows, the view was fantastic from my bed. My only issue was the musty smell when we first got to the room. Once we had the a/c running for a couple of days the smell definitely got better. Not sure if it is better on the upper floors. We were out and about most of the time so it wasn't a huge issue. They had plenty of restaurants to choose from, and it was close to even more choices. The bakery is the best! We went there a few mornings and had some pastries and just soaked in the view. Although close to the beach (10 minute walk), it is all uphill on the way back 😊 Not a huge issue, unless you are exhausted from being in the sun. I'm sure the hotel staff would have made sure we had transportation to and from. The adults only pool was perfect when we didn't have the energy to walk to the beach. We loved the monkeys, lizards, and birds all around the property. I would 100% go back!

Which Room to Book at Costa Verde
Costa Verde lists its rooms in three groups: family rooms open to all ages, studios in the adults-only section, and a two-bedroom loft. Every one has a kitchen or kitchenette, and every rate we priced was room only.
| Room | Section | Size | Sleeps | Beds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Efficiency | All ages | 40–41 m² | 4 | 2 double beds |
| Studio Family / Studio Plus Family | All ages | 35–36 m² | 4 | 2 double beds |
| Family Studio, Garden View | All ages | 48 m² | 4 | 2 queen beds |
| Family Studio Plus, Ocean View | All ages | 70 m² | 4 | 2 queen beds |
| Studio, Jungle View | Adults only | 48 m² | 4 | 2 queen beds |
| Studio / Studio Plus, Ocean View | Adults only | 70 m² | 4 | 2 queen beds |
| Airplane Sky Loft | All ages | 74 m² | 8 | 4 queen beds, 2 bedrooms, hot tub |
Pay for the view. Rooms vary a lot across the property, and one guest warned they are not all as they seem in the photos. If the view matters, book a room with "Ocean View" in the name rather than hoping for an upgrade.
For families, the Family Studio, Garden View was the cheapest room in our mid-January 2027 sample: $811 for three nights, about $270 a night, plus about $96 in tax shown separately. A refundable rate cost only $29 more.
The Airplane Sky Loft is the big splurge: two bedrooms on the top floor, sleeping up to eight, with a hot tub and ocean views, at $3,089 for three nights in our May 2027 sample. The hotel also sells it as the "Sky Loft 727 Aircraft", but its listing does not say you sleep inside a fuselage. If staying in a plane is the point, confirm with the hotel which unit you are booking.
What Guests Say About Costa Verde
Across 607 reviews, Costa Verde scores 8.9 out of 10. The review analysis rates food (9.73) and amenities (9.72) highest, then location (9.24) and service (9.2). Cleanliness is the clear weak spot at 7.23, followed by room quality at 8.19. We read the 75 most recent English-language reviews, from July 2025 to September 2026.
The wildlife and the views come first. Monkeys at breakfast, sloths by the pool and macaws in the trees fill review after review, along with ocean views from the balconies and the adults-only pool.
Then the space and the setup. Guests like the big rooms with kitchens and balconies, the hotel's restaurants (El Avión for dinner, Anaconda Cafe for breakfast, El Wagon for pizza) and the shuttle around the property.
The complaints are consistent. The hotel is on a steep hillside with many stairs. Rooms near the road pick up traffic and music from the restaurants across it. Many rooms are dated, with small bathrooms and weak ventilation, and a few guests found mildew. Breakfast is extra and the restaurants are not cheap.
What You Should Know
- Ask for a room away from the road when you book. Guests in road-side rooms report traffic and music from the hotel's restaurants across the street.
- Use the free shuttle: message the hotel on WhatsApp and a driver takes you between reception, the pools and the restaurants. It saves walking the steep road, especially after dinner.
- The beach is about a ten-minute walk down the hill, guests say, but the walk back up is steep. Take the shuttle or a taxi back if the heat gets to you.
- Breakfast is not included. Your room's kitchen makes it easy to self-cater, or eat at Anaconda Cafe on the property.
Getting to Costa Verde
Costa Verde is at kilometer 5 of the road from Quepos to Manuel Antonio, on the hillside above Playa Espadilla. The hotel's listing puts Playa Espadilla Norte about 400 meters away, and a guest put the national park entrance a little under 2 km away; the local bus along the road stops nearby. Parking is free.
Most international visitors fly into San José (SJO) and continue by road; see our San José to Manuel Antonio guide for shuttles and driving. The hotel lists airport transfers at an extra charge.
Being this close to the park makes an early start easy for a guided national park tour, and after dark the hillside is good territory for a Manuel Antonio night tour.
