Seven Jacó zipline and canopy tours compared, from a $75 ocean-view course at Los Sueños to an aerial tram park and waterfall combos, with age and weight limits and the one course that is nearly two hours away.

What You Should Know

  • Canopy tours on 8 to 18 cables in the forested hills around Jacó, most with views of the Pacific; a tractor or aerial tram carries you up, and you zip back down platform by platform.
  • Zipline-only tours take about two hours and leave daily from 08:00 to mid-afternoon. Combos that add ATVs, horses or waterfall rappelling run four to six hours.
  • Zipline-only tours cost $75 to $95 per adult, and children pay the same or slightly less. Combos cost $145.40 to $179, and transport is included on only some tours.
  • Not every course listed for Jacó is in Jacó: the 18-line waterfall course is near Puntarenas, about 85 km and nearly two hours away. Check where the park is before you book.

Jacó Zipline Tours: What You Are Booking

A Jacó zipline or canopy tour takes you up into the rainforest-covered hills behind the beach and sends you back down on a series of steel cables, clipped into a harness, from platform to platform above the trees. Around Jacó the courses sit on private reserves with views over the Pacific and Herradura Bay, and guests regularly spot scarlet macaws, toucans and white-faced monkeys between lines. Most parks are within 20 minutes of town, around Los Sueños and Herradura to the north or in the valleys just south.

How you get to the top matters. This is where the parks really differ. Vista Los Sueños and Ocean Ranch drive you up by tractor; Rainforest Adventures takes you up in an aerial tram, so there is no climbing at all; and the 18-line waterfall course near Puntarenas involves steep, slippery trails between lines and self-braking cables, where you control the stop yourself. For anyone with bad knees or no zipline experience, that difference matters more than the number of cables.

What to Expect on a Jacó Zipline Tour

About two hours at the park, most of it in the air.

  1. 0108:00

    Check-in at the park

Arrive by transfer or taxi and store your things in a locker.

  2. 02

    Gear up

Harness and helmet, and a step-by-step safety briefing from the bilingual guides.

  3. 03

    Tractor to the top

A 15-minute ride up the mountain through the reserve to the first platform.

  4. 04

    Ten cables down

Zip from platform to platform over the canopy, with views of Herradura Bay and the Gulf of Nicoya. Guides will show you the Spider-Man pose.

  5. 05

    Wildlife between lines

Guides point out macaws, toucans and white-faced monkeys when they are around.

  6. 06

    Fruit at the bottom

Fresh pineapple and watermelon, and the option to buy the guides' photos.

This follows Vista Los Sueños' two-hour canopy tour. Rainforest Adventures uses a tram instead of the tractor; Ocean Ranch adds a hike to the first line. What typically happens outside peak season is a very small group: several families describe ending up with the guides to themselves.

Our take (timing): Book the first departure of the day if you can. Guests on the 08:00 tour mention that it was not yet hot, and the birds and monkeys are more active early. Afternoon tours in the green season run a higher chance of rain.

1
Best overall

Vista Los Sueños: Ocean Views Zip Line Canopy Tour

$75 · ages 4+ · 4.9 from 136 reviews · 10 cables, 3.5 km

A tractor takes you to the top of an 80-acre reserve above Herradura Bay, and ten long cables bring you back down. Guides are patient with nervous first-timers and small children, teach the upside-down Spider-Man pose and point out macaws and monkeys.

Transport, photos and lockers cost extra; guests say the park arranges rides or a short Uber covers it. We'd give it the edge for young families, since it takes four-year-olds and Rainforest Adventures starts at eight.

2
No climbing

Rainforest Adventures: Aerial Tram & Zipline

$95 adult, $61 ages 5 to 12 · ages 8+ · 4.7 from 155 reviews · tram + 10 cables

A gondola carries you up over the forest for about 30 minutes, so there is no climb, and non-zippers can ride the tram while the rest of the group zips. There are no lockers and no phones on the lines.

We'd book it for the tram and the forest, not for wildlife: two one-star reviews this year came from guests who expected monkeys and saw almost none. Pay for photos by card.

3
Best with pickup

The Park at Ocean Ranch: Jungle Zipline & Waterfall Tractor

$75 any age from 5 · 4.6 from 41 reviews · 8 lines · pickup included for 2+

Eight lines through a private river valley south of town, starting beside the 180-foot El Encanto waterfall and finishing with a 600-metre run. Expect a steep hike to the first line.

We'd lean toward it if you have no car, since it is the only zipline-only tour with pickup. It has only three reviews in the past year, and one experienced zipliner rated it a cut below other courses.

4
Best combo

Vista Los Sueños: Zip Line + 3-Hour ATV & Waterfalls

$145.40 · ages 8+ · 4.9 from 214 reviews · 5 hrs

Our top pick's canopy tour, then three hours on an ATV through rivers and mud to waterfall stops. ATV drivers need a licence and a card for the $1,000 hold, or $25 insurance.

Guests call it good value for two activities. Pack a change of clothes: the ATV half leaves you hot and muddy.

5
Combo with lunch

ATV Adventure Tours Costa Rica: ATV + Zipline, Waterfall & Lunch

$179 adult, $119 child · 5.0 from 84 reviews · 6 hrs · Jacó pickup

Ten ziplines at Los Sueños, including a 2,400-foot cable, then a two-hour ATV ride to a swimming waterfall and a casado lunch. Guests say the guides adjust the ATV route on the day.

6
Most activities

The Park at Ocean Ranch: Mega Combo

$175 any age from 5 · 4.9 from 40 reviews · 5 hrs · lunch and pickup

A horseback ride to the El Encanto waterfall, a rappel beside it, ziplines and lunch. In heavy rain the park swaps the rappel for a tractor ride rather than cancelling.

We think the tradeoff is variety over flying time: about 600 metres of zipline here, against 3.5 km at Vista Los Sueños.

One Option Outside Jacó: Vista Golfo's Waterfall Course

The Ultimate Mega Zipline Adventure at Adventure Park and Hotel Vista Golfo is listed alongside the Jacó tours, but the park is near Miramar, about 85 km and nearly two hours' drive away. Two guests booked it believing it was near La Fortuna, so check the map before you commit.

What you get for the drive is the biggest course in the region: 18 cables over 11 waterfalls, with a swimming hole partway round. It costs $109 per person without transport or $199 with transport from Jacó (minimum two), and it is rated 4.6 from 134 reviews.

The lines are self-braking, so you control the stop yourself, and the trails between platforms are steep and slippery; one group was also bitten by midges on the platforms. We wouldn't choose it for a first zipline or for anyone with bad knees, but fit, experienced zipliners staying between Jacó and Puntarenas may find it worth the trip.

How Much Does a Zipline Tour in Jacó Cost?

Zipline-only tours in Jacó cost $75 to $95 per adult. Most charge children the same as adults; Rainforest Adventures is the exception at $61 for ages 5 to 12. What matters more than the ticket is transport: among the zipline-only tours, only Ocean Ranch includes pickup, and the far waterfall course adds $90 per person for it.

Zipline only, family of four$300 to $312

Two adults and two children aged 5 to 12 at Vista Los Sueños or Ocean Ranch ($300), or at Rainforest Adventures ($312).

Zipline only, for two$150 to $230

Vista Los Sueños or Ocean Ranch at $150, Rainforest Adventures at $190, or $230 with its naturalist guide.

Combos, for two$290.80 to $398

Vista Los Sueños' zipline and ATV combo at $290.80, Ocean Ranch's Mega Combo at $350, ATV Adventure Tours Costa Rica's combo at $358 and the Vista Golfo course with Jacó transport at $398.

If you only want to zipline, Vista Los Sueños at $75 is the best value near Jacó; spend more only if you want a tram, a second activity or the biggest course. Most people don't realize photos are the other variable cost: Vista Los Sueños and Rainforest Adventures both sell the guides' photos afterwards, per photo or as a package.

Our Take

What we keep seeing in reviews is that the guides decide how nervous first-timers feel: guests who were afraid of heights, five-year-olds and 75-year-olds all describe coming off the line laughing. The complaints that do appear are about everything around the zipline (photos that never arrived, wildlife that did not show, a park much further away than expected), not the cables themselves.

Tips for Ziplining in Jacó

  • Check the park's location before you book. Some courses listed for Jacó are not near Jacó. Vista Golfo is about 85 km away, and two guests booked it believing it was near La Fortuna.
  • Know the age and weight limits. Minimum ages run from 4 (Vista Los Sueños) to 8 (Rainforest Adventures), and weight limits from 250 to 300 lb. Check them for every member of your group.
  • Ask how the brakes work. Rainforest Adventures uses a controlled-braking system, so you never grab the cable. On self-braking courses such as Vista Golfo you control the stop yourself, which takes more strength and confidence.
  • Wear closed shoes and long shorts or trousers. Closed shoes are mandatory, and harnesses can pinch. On some courses, biting midges on the platforms are a reason to wear repellent.
  • Leave valuables behind or in a locker. There is nowhere to keep a bag on the lines. Vista Los Sueños has lockers for a deposit; Rainforest Adventures has none and does not allow phones on the course.
  • Pay for photos by card. Guides take photos and sell them afterwards. Guests who paid cash have struggled to get their photos delivered.
  • Do not count on wildlife. Macaws and monkeys appear on many tours, but not all. If animals are the priority, our Tárcoles River crocodile tour guide covers the best wildlife trip near Jacó.
  • Visiting in February? Our Jacó in February guide covers the clear, dry weeks that give the ocean-view lines their longest views, plus how to plan around weekend crowds.
  • Visiting in April? Our Jacó in April guide covers why morning lines are the safe bet as afternoon clouds return, and the quieter weeks after Easter.
  • Visiting in October? Our Jacó in October guide covers why early lines beat the afternoon rain and the lowest hotel prices we found all year.
  • Visiting in December? Our Jacó in December guide covers the start of the dry season, clearer views from the lines and the Christmas and New Year price peak.
  • Combining activities? A zipline morning leaves the afternoon free for the beach or a Jacó food tour; our Jacó surf lessons guide compares the schools, and our Manuel Antonio ziplining guide covers the courses further south.
  • Planning the rest of your trip? Our best things to do in Jacó guide ranks the top nine experiences and covers the free ones, from the beach to the crocodile bridge. Travelling with kids? Our best things to do in Jacó for families guide adds minimum ages and prices for a family of four.

How We Selected These Tours

The Costa Rica Day Trip team searched every zipline and canopy tour listed for Jacó and checked each live listing on 20 October 2026: price by age and option, departures, cable counts, age and weight limits, inclusions, transport and the full star distribution. We required a guest review in the past six months. Two Vista Los Sueños combos (with horseback riding and with a chocolate tour) were left out for that reason. Two ATV-led combos that include a short zipline section are covered in our Jacó ATV guide instead. We then read the most recent reviews of all seven tours, plus their most recent one- to three-star reviews, and measured driving distances from Jacó with Mapbox. The top pick weighs review quality and volume, the course itself, who it suits and price.
